Sometimes we just need to escape our immediate surroundings. We would do anything it takes to get away from where we are right now, and we're not going to apologize for that. That's what's beautiful about science fiction. It teaches us that there are different ways to do things, different places to be, and different ways to be a human. Sometimes the best way to be a human is actually to be an alien or a helpful robot. If we didn't have Star Wars, then we wouldn't know that. Science fiction is a way for us to imagine new worlds, in a way that makes our lives just a little bit better. Who doesn't wanna cozy up with a good trip to outer space on a cold weekend such as this one? There is something inherently cozy about science fiction.

Maybe it's because it doesn't take place in our own world, so we don't feel as emotionally attacked by it. That's not to say that science fiction can't get under our skin just like anything else. Sometimes it is even better at doing that, since it knows what buttons to push that will make our human emotions fly off the handle. Who hasn't cried while watching Star Trek?
